School Council 2019-20
Each year a representative from each class is elected democratically, by their peers, to represent their classes views and to be their ‘pupil voice’ within school. This will continue to be the case in Year 1 and 2. For this year, we have made the decision to elect 2 children (one boy and one girl), from each class in Year 3 through to Year 6, to encourage a balanced viewpoint across key stage 2 and to endeavour to narrow the gender gap. These children meet approximately once a month to work on specific projects to improve life in school or support identified charities.
This year we are hoping to promote pupil engagement in a range of activities and events, with a particular focus on activities during the school day for children to participate in linked closely to their interests, whether academic, creative or sporting. The children will have a say in what these activities will be and who they will be targeted at – our focus being to get all pupils involved and continue to work on closing the gender gap that exists in education. Our identified charities this year will be Addenbrookes Hospital and the children’s cancer charity Clic Sargent. In addition to this we will continue to support our local foodbank.
Links with other schools are also important to us. During the year we will be hoping to build links with other schools in our local area and to share ideas around projects school council may want to get involved with.
