School guidance for close contacts of a positive COVID case from 1st October 2021

Please see the News & Events section for the letter that was sent out via ParentMail

Dear Mums, Dads & Carers,

As you are aware, government guidance changed on 16th August regarding what happens if a child under 18 is deemed to be a close contact of someone who has tested positive with COVID-19.

Children are no longer required to isolate but instead, will be informed by NHS Test and Trace to undertake a PCR test – they can carry on as normal until the result is received. If the test comes back negative and the child does not display any symptoms, the child can continue as normal – they only need to isolate if either the test results are positive or they display/develop symptoms.

Since returning on 2nd September, we have had a number of positive cases within the school and have continued to undertake our own track and trace system. This has been done for a number of reasons:

  • To inform parents and carers as soon as possible that close contact has been identified – NHS Test and Trace are currently taking a number of days or more to do this
  • To minimise the spread of infection within the school, ensuring that school community is as safe as possible and that classes can remain open

If you have been one of those families we have had to contact, you would have received a telephone call from one of the office staff. From Friday 1st October, this system will change to a ParentMail message.

The message will read as follows:

URGENT – your child has been identified as a close contact of a positive case

We have been informed of a positive case within your child’s class and your child has been identified as a close contact. Please arrange for a PCR to be booked for your child as soon as possible. Please email the results to

Please ensure that you check your ParentMail on a daily basis and if you do have any issues with it, please contact the office. Please also ensure that if you change your mobile number or email address, you inform the office as soon as possible – we need to ensure that we always have the most up-to-date contact information for you at all times.

I am hoping that we won’t have to send the above message out too frequently and as always, we will do our utmost to keep you informed of any changes that need to be made.

Thank you in advance for your continued support and understanding.

Kind regards

Mr Pickard
